The Mpls Downtown Improvement District celebrated its 10th anniversary by hosting a Birthday Block Party on Nicollet on Wednesday, July 10th. To celebrate, we provided free activities including a nine-hole mini-golf course, a live DJ, the Storymobile, and had local food trucks on hand for hungry party-goers.
When the Mpls DID began in 2009, we set out to make over 120 blocks of downtown Minneapolis greener, cleaner, safer and more vibrant . A hallmark of this mission is our DID Ambassador staff. Our ambassadors have provided more than 1 million pedestrian assists, picked up more than 315,000 bags of trash and tended to more than 167,000 plants since its inception, to name a few notable stats.
The anniversary was also a special day for the four DID Ambassadors who were recognized as being on staff since the very beginning: Dave Hallenberger, Todd Sanford, Mike Ladwig and James Armstrong.
To close out the celebration, City Council Members Steve Fletcher and Lisa Goodman read a proclamation from Mayor Jacob Frey’s office that celebrated the DID’s efforts in its first 10 years and took a hopeful look at the future.
