Downtown Minneapolis Cloth Masks Drive 2020

In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, please help us make sure everyone in our community has access to a cloth face mask.

On behalf of many partner organizations, the Mpls Downtown Improvement District is gathering reusable cloth masks for people staying in emergency shelters and congregate care facilities. Over 3,000 masks are needed to meet existing needs for residents and staff at these facilities. While cloth masks don’t replace medical-grade personal protective equipment, they do help keep the wearer’s germs from getting on other people, which is key to stopping the spread of COVID-19.

How you can help

  • Create or purchase cloth face masks to donate to those in need.
  • Drop off mask donations: Leamington Ramp outdoor drop box, 10th St S and 3rd Ave S.
  • Donate masks by mail:  Mpls Downtown Improvement District, Ambassador Operations Center, 1030 3rd Ave S, Mpls, MN 55404

For guidelines on creating face masks, please see the webpage for the Governor’s Homemade Mask Drive, which inspired this local effort.

What we are doing

  • Mpls DID will gather donated masks and distribute them to project partners at emergency shelters and congregate care facilities
  • DID will also source and distribute cloth face masks directly to people in need on the streets of downtown through our Livability Team. We have purchased 300 masks from vendors of the Nicollet Makers Market to get started towards that goal.
