Meet James Seals, Hennepin County Social Worker for Mpls DID Street Outreach

James is the social worker for the new partnership between Hennepin County Behavioral Health and the Mpls Downtown Improvement District’s (DID) Downtown Joint Outreach Program.

James Seals began his position as a Hennepin County Social Worker in March 2021. He is the social worker for the new partnership between Hennepin County Behavioral Health and the Mpls Downtown Improvement District’s (DID) Downtown Joint Outreach Program. James coordinates directly with the DID Livability team and other outreach partners throughout downtown, builds relationships with impacted communities and the broader social service community, and responds to calls for assistance through the DID Safety Communications Center. 

James’ passion is helping those who are less fortunate have opportunities that offer support and connections to services. He is focused on offering and providing assistance in connecting to services. James’ focus will be on connecting with individuals who may be experiencing homelessness and behavioral health needs. Through in-person outreach, James is able to connect with individuals daily and can provide information and resources to those in need. 

James has nearly two decades worth of experience in corrections and has spent the past 10 years with Hennepin County. In his Social Worker role, he is fulfilling his dream and desire to help others throughout the community on a daily basis.  
James received his Associate’s Degree in Human Services from Minneapolis Community & Technical College in 2015, and he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in 2018 from Metropolitan State University’s College of Individualized Studies with a focus on Criminal Justice and Human Services.
