The Minneapolis Downtown Improvement District, along with several partners in the downtown area, are focused on helping create a greener, cleaner and safer place for all who live, work, play and explore in our city’s central core.

In order to help with the overall livability of the downtown area, MDID launched a new livability team in the Fall of 2015 led by a new livability team supervisor Joseph Desenclos. The team is charged with being a voice and a presence in the downtown streets, helping to connect those in need with the proper resources.

The team responds to calls that take place in public locations and provide property owners with valuable information that can benefit them in managing their private spaces around downtown.

The team also assesses why the situation is happening and helps facilitate appropriate connections, which include:

  • Minneapolis Downtown Improvement District Ambassadors
  • Property Owners
  • Street Outreach Entities (St. Stephen’s Street Outreach, YouthLink, Youth Coordinating Board and others)
  • Law Enforcement

Four methods that the livability team uses in assessing situations include services/intervention, education, Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) and law enforcement.

The livability team is also conducting a survey focused on polling the general public and seeing what will help enhance our downtown for those who live, work and visit here. Input from the community is important to their effort as it is necessary to establish the community’s definition of the term livability. This will help the team itself to engage in effective conversations.

The livability team invites you to take a five-minute survey to help with this mission. Your responses will be anonymous, and upon completion you’ll be entered to in one of five $50 gift cards. MDID thanks you for helping create an extraordinary downtown.
