Officers Casey and Queen March 2011

I am nominating Officers Mike Casey and David Queen for 1st Precinct Officer of the Month for March because of their efforts to address truancy, livability crimes, and community interaction within the 1st Precinct.
Officers Casey and Queen are assigned to the Day Beat. They patrol the SafeZONE area both on foot and in a squad. They continually have positive and professional contacts with community members during the course of their day and work hard to help keep the precinct safe and crime free.
Officers Casey and Queen routinely lead the precinct (which includes the month of March) in picking up truants. Because of their efforts to remove truants from the 1st Precinct they have no doubt prevented juveniles and other community members from being victims and or perpetrators of crimes. In March, Officers Casey and Queen picked up 33 truants and transported them to Juvenile Supervision Center for processing.
Additionally, on several occasions Officers Casey and Queen proactively conducted surveillance from locations along 7th Street & Nicollet Mall (which is an area that we routinely receive a high number of complaints for citizens regarding truants, people loitering, engaging in open air narcotic dealing, consuming, urinating and other livability crimes). As a result of the proactive efforts they made 18 arrests, had 158 suspicious person stops and 57 traffic stops. They also had 102 business contacts and 140 citizen contacts for the month.
Because of Officers Casey and Queen’s proactive initiatives in addressing truancy and livability issues they have helped make the 1st Precinct a safer place to work, play and visit.
