The Mpls Downtown Improvement District, with support from Target, hosted it’s annual National Night Out kickoff event on Tuesday at the DID Pop-Up Satellite Office at Gaviidae Common--located at 6th and Nicollet. A crowd estimated at more than 2,000 stopped by for treats, games, giveaways, music, meeting local community leaders and law enforcement, and more.

Key leaders that stopped by included Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo, Hennepin County Sheriff Richard Stanek, Metro Transit Police Chief John Harrington, Minneapolis Third Ward City Council Member Steve Fletcher, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman and others. Council Member Fletcher also provided a musical performance featuring covers of local artists.

National Night Out is an annual event that brings community together to meet law enforcement and public officials while talking about ways to keep neighborhoods safe. Minneapolis is a leader in NNO events, annually leading the nation's tier of largest cities in NNO community gatherings. The DID's kickoff event, which is held annually 3-5 pm in downtown Minneapolis, helps begin the day's festivities by providing information on the other Minneapolis NNO locations while bringing our local officials together in one downtown location to meet up with the public.

The weather was good, the ice cream was cold, the crowds were huge and the fun was endless.  We are very much looking forward to this event again next year, thanks to all that came.

The DID Pop-Up Satellite Office hosts weekly gatherings #OnNicollet during the summer. Stop by each Tuesday from 2-6 pm for more get-togethers to meet DID Ambassadors, play games, have treats and more.
